Security Clearance

SC: I am clear to the Security Check Security Standard. It is the most widely held security clearance for posts involving long-term, frequent and uncontrolled access to secret assets with occasional and controlled access to top-secret material. An SC level involves a BC security clearance check (see below), plus checks against the UK criminal and security records (and if appropriate, of overseas countries) and a credit check.

BS: I am cleared to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard or "BC" for Basic Security Check). This is evidence that I have no criminal record or unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

A BPSS provides a level of assurance to the trustworthiness and integrity of individuals whose work involves access to confidential assets or information.
